Tornadoes, flooding and fires are all a possibility in the Midwest. These disasters are very intimidating and many of us don’t put too much thought into the preparation and possibility of disaster happening to our family. When disaster strikes, you almost always have little to no time to get out of your home. This is why it is so important to prepare an ’emergency kit’ for your family ahead of time.
Should a disaster happen where you live, you should be prepared with enough water, food and supplies for up to 72 hours or more. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has prepared a comprehensive list of what to include in your family’s emergency kit. Print out this list and get to work! It may seem like a waste to purchase items and pack them away, especially since you may never need to use them. However, keep in mind that if your family should ever need these supplies in an emergency, you’ll be immensely grateful for the work that you did!
