Google reports that there are approximately 60,500 searches per month for “cleaning services” or “maid”. Astonishing!
If you’re like most people, cleaning services isn’t a luxury that you can afford. So how do you have the feel of professional cleaning services in your home without paying tons of money. That’s easy; do it yourself!
In the past, cleaning your home may have been a lot of work. It would be nice to have someone clean it for you every week. But, if you spend just 15 minutes a day cleaning your home, it will remain clean, smell fresh, take you less time and cost no money (besides supplies)!
How should you get started?
1. Make a schedule. This is the most important part to always having a clean house. Each week you should clean the bathrooms, sweep the floors, vacuum the carpets, etc. Get on a routine where you do one chore an evening (or even morning before work). You will find that doing these chores each week makes them easy to do, and should take you 15 minutes or less.
2. “Touch it once”rule. Cleaning becomes overwhelming when you don’t know where to start. Often times, this happens when your home is cluttered. To get rid of the clutter and keep it gone, implement the “touch it once” rule. Anytime to touch something, whether it’s a pair of shoes, a piece of mail or a pair of scissors, be sure to put it in it’s proper place when your done. Don’t drop it on the floor or set it on the counter with the intention of putting it away in a minute. It never happens!
3. Stay on top of seasonal tasks. If you have a good cleaning routine going, it’s time to tackle those seasonal tasks. Clean out your closets twice a month and get rid of clothes you don’t wear, change your furnace and A/C filter every 3 to 6 months, etc. Cleaning becomes overwhelming if you continue to put off the seasonal chores.
After you have implemented a cleaning schedule and stick to it, you will likely find it to be a relaxing part of your day. Not to mention, you will save a ton of money on cleaning services and your home will always feel “professionally cleaned”!
